THE GREAT FIRE OF AINSDALE

Today was much less windy so our Great Fire could take place. We set up the Tudor-style houses we had made like a London Street would have been. Mrs Andrews made St Paul's Cathedral.  The children were stood at a safe distance and we had buckets and a hose on standby, just in case! After a slow start where the roof tops burnt, the fire grew and passed quickly from house to house, just like it would've done in 1666. The cathedral crumbled from the top down, as it would've then.  The children showed great understanding of not only the events of the fire but our smaller version made them think about how they would have FELT to be there.
