Working From Home w/b 12th Oct

All worksheets, PowerPoints, website links etc. will be posted in our Year 5 Community on DB Primary. Please use DB Primary to contact your teachers. You could send finished work via email or upload it to your own files section and let me know it is there (that way I can pop over to have a look!)

You will need your DB login to access this.

W/B 12th October 2020

Monday 12th October

  • Maths (Mrs Horsley's Maths Group) - Subtract whole numbers with more than 4 digits - watch the video first and then complete the worksheet
  • Maths (Mrs Hyland's Maths Group) - Numbers to 1000 - watch the video first and then complete the worksheet
  • English (Mrs Horsley's English Group) - SPAG focus - Punctuating Speech - Work through the PowerPoint first and then complete one of the activity worksheets titled 'Missing Punctuation' (these are differentiated so choose the one that you think would suit you best).
  • English (Mrs Hyland's Group) - Common Exception Words focus - colour in the words that you can confidently read aloud. Make sure you then spend time practising those you do not know. You can spend time covering, writing and checking the spellings too. Can you write sentences independently using some of these words?
  • History - Greek Gods - Watch the Greek God's Video (link on DB Primary) and then work through the PowerPoint Presentation. Have a look at the fact files and choose at least 2 Greek Gods to write about.
I have also uploaded a short video of the rest of Chapter 9 (we were in the middle of this chapter last week!) You can find the link to this video on DB Primary in both the Guided Reading forum and the Files section under the 'Who Let the Gods Out?' tab.

Tuesday 13th October

  • Maths (Mrs Horsley's Maths Group) - Rounding to estimate and approximate - watch the short video first and then complete the worksheet - you could print this, write the answers on a separate piece of paper or complete it on the computer by using the 'Draw' feature. Check the video link above to find out how!
  • Maths (Mrs Hyland's Maths Group) - 100s, 10s and 1s - watch the video first (on the information document in your Maths folder) and then complete the worksheet - you could print this, write the answers on a separate piece of paper or complete it on the computer by using the 'Draw' feature. Check the video link above to find out how!
  • English (Mrs Horsley's Group) - Watch the guided reading videos (there are 2 parts!) and then answer the questions associated with this chapter. I have set it as a task for you to complete and hand in on DB Primary.
  • English (Mrs Hyland's Group) - You could also watch the guided reading videos in the Guided Reading forum and post a comment about what you think might happen next (prediction). You may also want play some of the phonics games on Education City.
  • Don't forget to practise your spellings today - you can get someone at home to test you tomorrow (Wednesday!)
  • Homework - if you have not completed your DB Primary homework activities from last week, don't forget these should be completed by tomorrow (Wednesday!)
  • Art - This afternoon's lesson would have been an Art lesson where we would have been making more preparations for creating our clay Greek Vases. I have uploaded the PDF slides that we would have worked through. I had purchased plasticine for us to practise the techniques during this lesson. If you have any plasticine or playdoh at home, you could practice these skills. Why not take some photos and post them to DB or email them to me?

Wednesday 14th October

  • New Spellings - You will then find a PowerPoint and video introducing you to your new spellings (just like we would normally do in class!) Please make sure you watch your group's video and look at the PowerPoint, before going on Spelling Shed to practise your new spellings. These will be tested at home next Wednesday (21st October)
  • PHSE - Following on from our lesson last week we are continuing to look at 'Peer Pressure'. There are two video links and 2 worksheets to complete.
  • PE - I have added links to some appropriate workouts for you to choose from if you would like.

  • As requested, I have filmed another chapter of our class novel for you to enjoy - no questions to answer, just sit back and listen to the next section of the story.
  • Homework - this week, homework should have been another reading comprehension in our homework books, but instead of providing you with another sheet to download/print, I am going to do another week of DB Primary activities instead - these will be available to complete until the end of the half-term holidays so there is no rush! I will save the reading homework task for when we are back to school.

I know you were looking at number lines similar to this last week with Mrs Hyland and some of the group had struggled a little bit so please take your time with it and don't worry if any of it is particularly tricky. Mrs Hyland will spend some time reviewing this when we are all back in class together. Watch the WRM video from the link, and then complete the worksheet.
