All worksheets, PowerPoints, website links etc. will be posted in our Year 5 Community on DB Primary. Please use DB Primary to contact your teachers. You could send finished work via email or upload it to your own files section and let me know it is there (that way I can pop over to have a look!)

You will need your DB login to access this.

Monday 19th October

  • Maths (Mrs Horsley's Maths Group) - As we have finished our 'Addition and Subtraction' block today we are completing the end of block assessment. Please try and complete it as independently as possible as you would in school as it will help inform my future assessments. We will mark these on Tuesday as we normally would in class, I will upload a video going through the answers for you to self-mark smiley
  • Maths (Mrs Hyland's Maths Group) - Compare Numbers - watch the video first and then complete the worksheet.
  • English (Mrs Horsley's English Group) - SPAG focus - Modal Verbs and Adverbs to indicate possibility. Watch the 'English Input' video first, then work through the warm-up PowerPoint. After this watch the 'English Part 2' video and then look at the example sentences for the main activity.
  • English (Mrs Hyland's Group) - Comprehension Video - watch the video and work through the comprehension questions throughout the video - feel free to pause at the right times.
  • Computing - Computer Systems & Networks - There is a short introduction video for the lesson. Then look at the BBC Website link for 'How does the internet work?'. Next watch the Computing Lesson Input video before completing the worksheet. There is an additional video if you are interested.
Tuesday 20th October
  • Maths (Mrs Horsley's Maths Group) - Today you will be marking the End of Block Assessment from yesterday. I have posted a video going through the answers similar to what we would have done in class (although in class you would have been able to answer questions too!) This video is in two parts so make sure you watch part one first. Once you have done this you could spend a little bit of time practising on Times Tables Rockstars - I had planned for us to have the iPads for half of this session.
  • Maths (Mrs Hyland's Maths Group) - Ordering Numbers - watch the video first and then complete the worksheet.
  • English (Mrs Horsley's English Group) - Reading lesson and preparation for future writing. I have set today's lesson as a task so it will appear in your 'Things to do.'
  • English (Mrs Hyland's Group) - We are looking at instruction writing - there are 4 parts to your lesson and I have numbered each on for you in the files section.
  • Geography - we are continued our map work by using a website called Digimaps. Digimaps has loads of really useful features and I want you to spend some time becoming familiar with some of them. I have set you a task to find out some information about some Premier League football grounds. Watch the video first and then look at both the PowerPoint for further instructions. Use this and the Digimaps login (emailed to you!) to complete the Word document.
  • Reading - Chapter 15 is ready for you. It is quite a short one but includes some interesting information about a prophecy. I have uploaded a photo of the prophecy so you can interpret and decipher it further.
  • Spellings Practice before your test tomorrow!

Wednesday 21st October

  • Maths (Mrs Horsley's Maths Group) - Today I had planned for us to play some Multiplication Games in class. I have uploaded a few different activities - you don't need to complete all of them, however I would like you to have a go of as many as you can. Let me know how you get on and share any scores/answers with me where possible!
  • Maths (Mrs Hyland's Maths Group) - Adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers and 1-digit numbers - watch the video first and then complete the worksheet.
  • English (Mrs Horsley's English Group) - We are still doing some preparation for future writing. I have uploaded three different things for today's lesson. 1. A link to BBC Bitesize 2. A reminder of the information on Poseidon from our History last week. 3. A Quick-Write Greek Myth Activity.
  • English (Mrs Hyland's Group) - We are looking at instruction writing this week. Today we are looking at some examples of good instructions. We call them a WAGOLL - What A Good One Looks Like. Everything you need for this lesson is in your English tab.
  • Spellings - The first thing you need to do is ask someone to test you on the spellings from this week (I have added them into the spelling folder on DB). I have then included our next spellings which will be tested on the Wednesday after half-term. I know that feels like a long time away but please make sure you look at them today so you have an idea of how much practice you need to do.
  • PHSE - Watch the video where I recap the work we have done on Peer Pressure so far, introduce some thinking scenarios and then explain your written activity.
  • Reading - Chapter 16 is ready for you. It is a longer one today but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
Thursday 22nd October
  • Maths (Mrs Horsley's Maths Group) - Today I had planned for us to complete a Maths mystery in pairs! You can complete this at home on your own or maybe work with a friend over email or phone call etc. (with parents permission of course!) Beware - the answers are at the end of the PDF - please don't cheat!
  • Maths (Mrs Hyland's Maths Group) - Times table's practice - a link to an Education City video (you will need to log in) and then a worksheet.
  • English (Mrs Horsley's English Group) - More preparation for writing today in the form of planning our main character - hero/heroine. Watch the teaching video and then there are 2 PDFs - one is a worksheet and one is a word mat which may inspire you.
  • English (Mrs Hyland's Group) - Today you are going to write your own set of instructions. Watch the teaching video first, and then there are 4 supporting documents for the lesson.
  • RE - There are 9 numbered parts to this lesson, all in the RE tab - follow them through. We are looking at holy books of other faiths.
  • Golden Time
  • Reading - Chapter 17 is ready for you. It is a longer one again today but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
Friday 23rd October
  • Maths (Mrs Moore's Maths Group) - Today's lesson is on Area of Irregular shapes. There is a supporting document, then the worksheet to be completed (This is only one-sided!) and then there is an additional supporting document that I think may help too with this whole shape unit.
  • Maths (Mrs Hyland's Maths Group) - Times table's practice - a link to an Education City video (you will need to log in) and then a worksheet.
  • English (Mrs Horsley's English Group) - The Moon reading comprehension - this is going to build on your knowledge of the moon in order to be able to write a poem, after half-term, about the moon, using your knowledge of figurative language. Complete the 2 star worksheet please ** - as always the answers are available on the PDF so no cheating! wink
  • English (Mrs Hyland's Group) - Today you are going to think about what questions you would ask the boy in the cloud video if you could speak to him. Think particularly about questions relating to his thoughts and feelings at the time when he was with his Grandad.
  • Science - More preparation for moon poetry by extending your knowledge of the moon phases further. There is a PowerPoint to look at and a worksheet to complete. Also Mrs Moore would like you to fill in a moon diary for one week - make some additional notes/adjectives that come to mind when looking at the moon each day - this will really support your poetry writing. Make sure you bring this back in with you after half-term!
  • Music - I have emailed you with your music Charanga Yumu logins (just in case you can't remember them) and have set you the task of beginning to learn the sign language for Livin' On a Prayer laugh
  • Reading - Chapter 18 is ready for you. It is a longer one again today so make sure you watch both parts.
