English
At ASJ, we believe that English sits at the heart of our curriculum. We want every child to experience the joy of language, and we provide a rich, carefully sequenced programme that helps them grow as confident readers, writers, and communicators. Using high‑quality texts and the Ready Steady Write scheme, and the Pathways to Read, and Pathways to Spell schemes, children explore a wide range of genres and learn to write with purpose, imagination, and clarity. From early phonics through Read Write Inc. to focused reading and spelling teaching in Key Stage 2, our approach ensures steady progression and a deep understanding of the written word.
We place great importance on the essential building blocks of English, including oracy, handwriting, vocabulary, and reading for pleasure. These foundations help every child to flourish as a writer. Our curriculum is inclusive by design, ensuring that all pupils—whatever their starting point—are supported to become independent, articulate learners. We celebrate a love of language and take pride in the care, creativity, and high standards shown in pupils’ work. English is woven throughout our wider curriculum, helping children make meaningful connections and express themselves confidently across all subjects. At ASJ, English is a real priority, equipping our pupils with the skills they need to thrive both now and in the future.
